by the clear, cascading mountain rivers of the Vernazobre and Orb. St
Chinian is set in a beautiful valley in the Languedoc region with an optional
one night carp fishing at Lake Salagou. Plenty to do
for all the family – swimming, canoeing, sight-seeing, market-shopping,
wine-tasting, sketching,cycling and walking.
The Vernazobre river flows on our doorstep at St. Chinian
and the larger, spectacular Orb river is only 20 minutes drive away. Fishing
permit included.
Your first afternoon will be spent sightseeing around St-Chinian which has Roman origins, a Benedictine Abbey, fishing tackle shop, outdoor swimming pool and river rock pools, ending with a wine tasting in the local Cave where most of the wine is produced. This will be followed by an evening meal (with an aperitif and country wine included) in a beautiful private garden in the centre of St-Chinian. The food is prepared from local produce and is authentic French home-cooking. Picnic lunches are included in the package.
The following days will consist of fishing along the Vernazobre and the Orb rivers. On Thursday mornings there is a lively street market where you can purchase many gastronomic delights, including fresh oysters. A restaurant visit is also arranged (11 Euro – 19 Euro) for lunch. On Thursday afternoon, we drive to Lake Salagou to set up camp for all night fishing for carp or you can continue fishing in St-Chinian for trout.
For partners, not interested in fishing, there are many beautiful sites along the river to relax/sunbathe, swim in our outdoor pool with mountain views, watch the world go by in the street cafes or explore the town. The famous Mediterranean gardens are on the hillside overlooking the river Orb. Canoes can be hired on the Orb and bikes can be hired in St-Chinian.
Prices include walking maps/guides, B&B accommodation, continental breakfast, wine-tasting, and picnic/lunches.We have arranged two 3-course evening meals with authentic French home cooking (16 Euros, aperitif and wine included) in the beautiful garden of the Maison du Parc.
The
accommodation is situated in 18thC stone town houses which have been newly
renovated. The houses are five minutes walk from the
main street, shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and market. Each
double bedroom is either en-suite or shares a bathroom with one other
couple. All have access to a fridge and refreshments. English
is spoken in all the accommodations.
